Bike Ride Disaster

(or nearly)

One thing that I don't like about southwestern Washington are all of the goatheads and other pokey things. We've already had one flat tire. When I got the patches and the goop for inside the tires, I thought, "I really should get some goop for Dante's tires (my bike tires already has some in them). I'm just asking for trouble to wait." But I was in too much of a hurry to listen. So we rushed out, I fixed the tire later, and everything was hunky-dory. Then we rode our bikes to the store last week to grab an emergency item, and BAM! Dante's tire was flat. It was nearly dark and we were at least a mile from our house. I strapped Dante's bike to the top of the trailer (it actually stayed very secure for the trip) and gave my eldest two options. He could ride in the trailer with Emily in his lap, or he could ride on the bike with me, maybe on the seat while I stood the whole way. He chose the trailer, so I packed them all in. I'll tell you now that those trailers aren't meant to hold that many kids or that much weight. We made it home, with the kids shouting the whole way, and Constance freaking out every time the velcro on the cover gave a little bit. And I got to pull three kids and a bike and trailer uphill the whole way home. We made it just fine, but I have since gone to the bike store to get goop for Dante's tires.

  1. Don't you hate it when you have those "Oh that was the spirit" moments. I'm glad you made it back safely and everything worked out. Emily is such a cute baby, she grows so fast!
